Dan Moyane (born 3 August 1959 in Soweto) is a South African journalist, regarded as one of South Africa’s modern-day broadcast greats. He has worked as a reporter, editor and presenter for radio and television stations in Mozambique, South Africa and the UK on a full-time and freelance basis since 1980.
Early Life
Dan attended Morris Isaacson High School in Soweto during the height of the Soweto student uprising in 1976 before leaving the country to Mozambique where he began his broadcasting career in 1980.
Career
He returned to South Africa in 1991 and joined the independent radio station, 702, where his deep knowledge of the media, honesty and infectious enthusiasm won him many fans, as the country was transitioning into a new dawn of democracy. In 1995, as Talk Radio 702 Breakfast Show co-host, Dan recorded a popular version of Shosholoza, a song which is a favourite at sporting events in South Africa, during the 1995 Rugby World Cup. The song was recorded, mastered and released in five days, having been mastered in the UK to get it ready in time for the first game in the 1995 Rugby World Cup. It was conceptualised and produced by Famous Faces Management's Stuart Lee. The record went gold in sales terms. Dan anchors TODAY on eNCA, South Africa’s leading 24-hour television news channel. From 2013 to 2019 he co-anchored eNCA’s premier Morning News Today programme. His broadcasting credentials include editorial and management roles in Radio Mozambique’s English Service, BBC Focus on Africa, Talk Radio 702, SABC and eNCA. He has also worked in corporate communication and corporate social investment.
Awards
Dan was inducted into South Africa's inaugural Radio Hall of Fame awards.
