Dan Rothstein is an American educator and author. He co-founded the Right Question Institute (RQI), a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of question-asking techniques in education and other fields.[1]
Education and career
Rothstein graduated from Harvard University with a degree in social studies in 1977. He earned an Ed.D from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1985.[2] He remained a postdoctoral fellow at Ben Gurion Research Center in Israel from 1985 to 1986.[3]
Rothstein began his career in 1987 as a director of Neighborhood Planning in the City of Lawrence.[4] In 1990, he co-founded the Right Question Project, which was later renamed the Right Question Institute. The RQI developed the Question Formulation Technique (QFT), a structured approach to teaching individuals how to ask questions effectively. This method has been integrated into educational curricula and used in training programs for educators, healthcare professionals, and community organizers.[5]
Rothstein has served as a co-principal investigator for research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). These projects include initiatives focused on STEM education and promoting inquiry-based teaching practices.[6][7][8]
Rothstein has also conducted workshops and presentations at institutions such as the Harvard Graduate School of Education and conferences organized by ASCD.
