"Dance Floor Darling" is a song by Kylie Minogue taken from her fifteenth studio album Disco (2020). The song was sent to BBC Radio 2 on 24 April 2021.[1]

Background and composition[edit]

Kylie teased the title of the song, changing the cover image of her Infinite Disco playlist on Spotify to bear the title. "Dance Floor Darling" was co-written by Kylie, Maegan Cottone and its producer Sky Adams. It runs for three minutes and thirteen seconds, and features a tempo change after the song's middle eight. Kylie has cited "Dance Floor Darling" as one of her favourite songs on Disco.

On 2 April 2021, a slightly edited radio mix premiered on BBC Radio 2. The song featured slight and subtle changes, including a laugh near the end of the track. On 23 April 2021, "Dance Floor Darling" was added to BBC Radio 2's B-List.[1][2][3] The Official Charts Company later confirmed the song as a single and revealed the artwork being used on 18 May.[4] Various forms of social media promotion were used by Minogue in order to promote the single. On Twitter, Minogue thanked BBC Radio 2 for adding the song to their playlist and interacted with fans.[5] On TikTok, she re-posted multiple videos of fans using the song in their creations.[6] Furthermore, video clips showing Minogue dancing along to the song in various outfits were posted on several platforms.[7]

Live performances[edit]

Kylie performed "Dance Floor Darling" on Infinite Disco, after a small intro of "I Should Be So Lucky". This performance was also used for Kylie's appearance at iHeartRadio's Can't Cancel Pride broadcast on 4 June 2021.[8] Kylie also performed the song during her set at Global Citizen Live, a 24-hour broadcast, on 25 September 2021.[9]
