Danial Lawton (26 December 1980) is a permaculture consultant, designer, teacher, and earthworks operator.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] Danial has worked in permaculture from a very young age, as a second generation permaculturalist and the son of world renowned permaculture pioneer Geoff Lawton.[9][8][1]

Career[edit]

Danial started working in the field of permaculture at a very young age helping his father (Geoff Lawton) with his consultation and implementation jobs, even attending some of Geoff's early overseas projects in Ecuador in 1994 and Costa Rica in 1997.[8] He completed his first PDC when he was in Ecuador in 1994 at the age of only 13. After Bill Mollison announced his retirement In October 1997, Bill asked Lawton to establish and direct a new Permaculture Research Institute on the 66 hectare Tagari Farm developed by Mollison. Danial was heavily involved in Geoff further developed the site over three years and established The Permaculture Research Institute Australia as a not for profit company. After working and helping to establish PRI while also conducting Permaculture consultancy work for PRI Danial was awarded a Permaculture Diploma for his work in the areas of Site Establishment, Site Design, & Research.[10] After PRI moved to Zaytuna Farm in 2001, to The Channon, Danial helped his Father move the farm and establish the initial earthworks and infrastructure. Danial then attended Griffith University were he studied a Bachelor of Environmental science followed by a Master of Environmental Management, then finally followed a few years later by a Master of Environmental Engineering.[10]

In 2001 Danial established and is the managing director of Permaculture Tools a company to help supply much needed hand tools to the permaculture community that were often only available within there countries of origin. Permaculture Tools supplies permaculture projects with appropriate hand tools all around the world.[11]

Danial has taught PDC's, Permaculture Earthworks and other specialized permaculture practical courses for PRI, At Giffith University, Northey Street City Farm, Noosa Forest Retreat and other sites both in Australia and overseas.[10]
