Daniel Barel is the co-founder and CEO of REE Automotive, an electric automotive technology company based in Israel.[1][2]
Education[edit]
Barel graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2004, with a degree in Economics and Business Administration.[3]
Career[edit]
In 2011, Barel and Ahishay Sardes founded Softwheel,[1][2] with Barel serving as CEO.[3] Softwheel provides in-wheel suspension technology engineered for use in wheelchairs and bicycles,[4] based on a wheel design consisting of three suspension arms inside the rim to allow the wheel to absorb shock from any direction.[3][5] In 2018, SoftWheel signed a $4.5 million contract with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.[2]
Barel and Sardes later founded REE Automotive in 2013 to develop flat, scalable modular platforms for electric vehicles.[6] In 2020, REE was named a BloombergNEF Pioneer.[1][6]
As of 2021, REE has partnerships with Hino Motors Ltd.,[7] Magna Steyr, Mahindra, Mitsubishi Corporation, American Axle, and others to develop EV technology for vehicles.[8][2][9][10]
In February 2021, REE entered into a merger agreement with 10X Capital Venture Acquisition Corp.[11]
