Daniel Gladwell (born 2 October 2007) is an English cricketer who plays as a left-arm seam bowler. An Essex academy graduate, he signed a short-term professional deal with the county in August 2025 and was named in Essex’s squad for the 2025 Metro Bank One-Day Cup. [1][1][2][3]
Early life and education
Gladwell was born in Colchester, Essex. He was educated at Gosfield School from Year 7 through to Year 13.
Domestic and youth career
Gladwell came through the Essex youth pathway and was included in the county’s 2025 academy cohort. At club level he plays for Colchester & East Essex Cricket Club.[2]
During his early career, Gladwell played school cricket for Gosfield with success, winning the Under-15 ISA Nationals in 2023 and the Under-15 County Cup final in the same year. In 2023, he was also selected to play at the ECB Bunbury Cricket Festival for London and South East, which his side won. In 2025, Gosfield reached the National Schools Plate Final at Under-17 level.
In 2022, Gladwell achieved career-best bowling figures of 9–2 for West Mersea 1st XI. His bowling that season prompted a move to Colchester & East Essex Cricket Club, where he currently plays in the Essex Premier League. As of 2025, he is the league’s highest wicket-taker for the season.
In August 2025, Essex announced that Gladwell had signed a short-term professional contract running until the end of the month. He was subsequently named in the squad for One-Day Cup fixtures against Surrey and Leicestershire.[1]
As of 16 August 2025[update], he has been listed in Essex’s first-team squads but has yet to make a senior debut in first-class, List A, or T20 cricket.[1]
Playing style
Gladwell is a right-handed batter and a left-arm seam (fast-medium) bowler. [2][3]
