Daniel Hardcastle (born 23 March 1989), better-known as NerdCubed (stylised as Nerd3), is a British YouTuber who produces gaming and review videos, as well as vlogs.

Career[edit]

Prior to his YouTube career, Daniel created a webcomic series based on the popular game Minecraft. He created his YouTube channel in March 2011, and later became part of the Machinima network. Daniel produced a few sponsored videos for Machinima around this time which were well-received and helped to boost his popularity.

The first video posted on Daniel's channel was a short clip of Daniel presenting an award to director Edgar Wright. After this, Daniel initially uploaded short vlogs and sketches, before moving to gaming videos. A lot of his early content revolved around building megastructures in Minecraft, including a flying turtle city and a giant TARDIS. Daniel's goal was to take the snappy editing style commonly used vlogs and apply it to gameplay footage. The success of Daniel's early videos eventually allowed him to found NerdCubed as a company, which he continues to run with help from his wife Rebecca, and his friend Matt Collins (Mattophobia), who is the CEO of the company.

Daniel has regularly collaborated with other famous YouTubers, including Emma Blackery, Stuart Ashen, and Martyn Littlewood (InTheLittleWood).

After a number of years producing gaming videos on YouTube, Daniel began developing his own videogames. He has released three games so far; How To Snooker, Systems Nominal and Pi Fight.

Daniel announced he would be publishing a book titled Fuck Yeah, Video Games: The Life And Extra Lives Of A Professional Nerd in June of 2018. The book was crowd-funded via the online publishing platform "Unbound", after a number of publishers declined it. The book reached its target within an hour of going live, a record[1] for Unbound, with pledges for the book exceeding 1000% of the original goal soon after.

Personal life[edit]

Daniel currently lives with his wife Rebecca, their two dogs, Regan and Matilda, and their pet snake Eli.

Daniel is an avid collector of Lego and often highlights or reviews sets on his second channel, OfficiallyNerdCubed.

Daniel's father, Steve Hardcastle (a.k.a. Dad3) also set up his own YouTube channel as part of the NerdCubed network, producing vlogs, cooking, and gameplay videos.
