Daniel Maggio (born March 4, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL on loan from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). Maggio was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career[edit]

Maggio played five seasons (20072012) of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), scoring 25 goals and 75 assists for 100 points, while earning 491 penalty minutes, in 284 OHL games.

Maggio made his professional debut in 2012, joining the Fort Wayne Komets, then of the Central Hockey League (CHL), to help them capture the 2012 Ray Miron President's Cup as league champions.[1]

In his second professional season, Maggio remained with the Komets before signing his first professional try-out contract in the American Hockey League with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. After one game in the 2012–13 season, Maggio returned to the Komets before he was loaned to the Lake Erie Monsters, where upon impressing signed for the remainder of the season scoring 4 points in 25 games.

Maggio re-signed with the Monsters to a one-year contract prior to the 2013–14 season, he then attended the NHL training camp of the Colorado Avalanche, the parent affiliate of Lake Erie.[2]

On September 16, 2015, Maggio was announced to have signed a one-year AHL contract, following the Avalanche in changing their affiliate from the Monsters to the San Antonio Rampage.[3] In the 2015–16 season, Maggio dressed in 36 games with the Rampage, adding a goal and two assists to go along with his team leading 116 penalty minutes.

As a free agent in the following off-season, Maggio left his association with the Avalanche and signed a one-year AHL deal with the Toronto Marlies on August 22, 2016.[4]
