Playing career[edit]
Hernández began his career at Caribeños de Cancún in the Tercera División de México in 1987,[6] staying at the club three seasons; he was the Third Division top goalscorer in the last season.[2] He then joined Segunda División de México club Pioneros de Cancún, where he played 11 seasons.[2]
During the 1990–91 season, Hernández represented Mexico internationally at under-23 level, playing four games in a tour in Europe; he scored a goal against Slovenia in a 3–1 win.[2] He became the first player from Cancún to represent Mexico internationally.[2]
Upon his return from the European tour, Hernández was signed by Primera División de México side Monterrey, playing for the team's Primera A and Segunda División affiliate clubs.[2] He retired in 2000.[2]
