Career[edit]

In 1986, he was charged under Section 295c, the blasphemy law in Pakistan, after he quoted the Qur'an. He feared receiving a death sentence and left for Australia, where he worked at the University of Queensland.

In 2002, he was conducting a seminar in Melbourne arranged by Danny Nalliah for Christians about Islam. He was subsequently charged under the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 for inciting contempt of Islam in the minds of the listeners. The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) found that Scot, Nalliah and Catch the Fire Ministries had breached the law. On appeal, the Supreme Court of Victoria set aside the finding, after five-and-a-half years.
