Danny Kingad[1] is a Filipino mixed martial artist who competes in the Flyweight division of Asia's biggest MMA Organization ONE Championship and a former Wushu Champion. Kingad was ONE Championship's Flyweight World Grand Prix Finalist, but lost to Demetrious Johnson in the finals via Unanimous Decision.[2][3][4][5]

Background

Kingad was born in Sadanga, Philippines on September 28, 1995. After losing his father at the age of eight, Kingad began running with the wrong crowd that led him astray. He would drop out of school on multiple occasions and be found sleeping on the streets.[6][7]

During his junior year of high school, his cousin, Roldan Sangcha-an, introduced him to Wushu. After a brief but successful Wushu career, Kingad joined the famed Team Lakay to transition into mixed martial arts.

Mixed martial arts career

Kingad made his professional MMA debut on November 20, 2014 at Rock N’ Rumble - Year 2 in Quezon City, Philippines.

ONE Championship

After a 4-0 start, “The King” would make his ONE Championship debut at ONE Championship: Global Rivals on April 15, 2016. He defeated Muhammad Haidar via submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round.[8]

On November 10, 2017, Kingad got his first crack at championship gold. He would lose his bid for the ONE Championship Flyweight World Title to Adriano Moraes via submission (rear-naked choke).[9]

In 2019, Kingad participated in ONE Championship’s Flyweight World Grand Prix. He earned victories over Senzo Ikeda and Reece McLaren to earn a spot in the finals on October 12, 2019. Kingad lost to Demetrious Johnson at ONE Championship: Century by unanimous decision.[10]
