Danuta Jarecka (born 21 July 1960 in Katowice, Poland) is a Polish graphic designer, illustrator and painter.
Career[edit]
The daughter of Krystyna and Jurand Jarecki, close relative of a Kraków based Polish painter: Zbylut Grzywacz. She received her master's degree in etchings from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. In 1986 she emigrated to the United States. In New York City she continued her education at the School of Visual Arts and began her career as a conceptual illustrator. Her work appeared in “The New York Times”[1], “Washington Post”, "Daily News"[2], “Dell Magazines”[3], “The Wall Street Journal”[4], ”Business Week”[5], "Cosmopolitan"[6] and other national and international publications. In the 1990’s she established herself as contributor to "The New York Times" op-ed page[7]. She illustrated the covers for books published by: "Simon & Shuster", "Random House", "Columbia University Press", "St. Martin’s Press", "Henry Holt & Co"[8] and “Znak"[9]. She also became a member of the Graphic Artist Guild.
She has been a guest lecturer at Parsons School of Design and California Institute of the Arts. A participant of many group[10] and solo shows, and a recipient of several awards or nominations in competitions for illustrators[11][12]. She lives in Warsaw, Poland pursuing her career as an abstract painter.
