Dario Lopez (born Sudip Gautam) is a British Nepalese entrepreneur.

Early life

Lopez was born in Amarpur, Gulmi, Nepal, and studied at Green Lawns Academy in Balkhu, and Holy Land International School, Baneshwor in Kathmandu.[1] In November 2002 he moved to England with his mother Sushila Gautam to join his father Dinesh Gautam,[2] and attended the Crown Woods School in Eltham, London.[1]

In December 2003, Lopez stole £10 from his mother's credit card to register his website domain name.[1] This allowed him to start selling SIM cards on eBay, which he began doing in 2004.[2] He also sold these and computer accessories at Greenwich Market, then began to sell MP3 players on eBay.[1] In 2004 he opened an internet cafe in Aldershot to sell more MP3-related products.[1] From 2005, Lopez travelled around London selling SIM cards in wholesale stores and retail shops, then opened his own store in November 2007.[1]

Business activities

Lopez runs a mobile phone accessory company with a staff of 13 and an annual turnover of more than £3M. [3] He has also opened a store in London.[2] In 2011, his business became the top seller on eBay in the UK.[2][3] In addition to his phone accessory business, Lopez is currently planning to launch a similar venture in Nepal in addition to a social networking site.[2] [4] Selling on eBay has taught us to be very thorough, precise, and particular, hopefully to the point of perfection", Dario explains. "The thing is, selling on eBay is completely different to selling on a normal ecommerce website and it has completely shaped our business. Due to the amount of information and product detail required on eBay, customers expect exactly what they have seen advertised. You have to be on-the-ball with every element of the business; stock control, postage, prices and so on."

This is especially true if you are looking to obtain or maintain Top-rated seller status. Dario sees this stamp as a key to increasing sales, but also points out that it increases the level of customer service expectation, "Having eTRS status increases sales dramatically, but buyers expect the highest possible service from an eBay Top-rated seller, so we have to run like clockwork.[4]
