Darren Hercus (born 1970/1971 (age 55–56)) is an Australian politician, and has represented the district of Nepean in the Victorian Legislative Assembly since a 2026 by-election. Hercus is a member of One Nation, and the first member of that party to sit in the Legislative Assembly. Prior to his election, he owned a small business in Safety Beach.

Life and career

Hercus was born in 1970/1971 (age 55–56).[1] He was announced as the One Nation candidate for the 2026 Nepean by-election on 1 March.[2] At the time, Hercus was the owner of a fabrication company in Safety Beach.[1] According to two former members of One Nation, Hercus was selected directly by Warren Pickering, the state president of One Nation.[1] Hercus states that he was chosen by a vote of the membership.[3]

During the campaign, The Age reported that Pickering had told Hercus to set up his own personal bank account to accept campaign donations.[1] When asked by The Age, Hercus stated he was personally funding most campaign expenses himself, but had no knowledge of how donations were being managed.[1] The report was denied by federal One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, who described them as "false allegations".[4]

Hercus was elected as the MP for Nepean, becoming the first One Nation member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly.
