Darshan Mandhana is an Indian male model, who was crowned the 1st runner up at Mr. Gay India 2017. He represented India at Mr Gay World 2017.[1]
Biography[edit]
Mandhana was born to conservative Marwari parents. His family originally hails from a small town in Jaiselpur near Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He did his schooling from Sanjeewan Vidyalaya, Panchgani and achieved his master’s degree from the Indira Institute of Management, Pune.[2]
Career[edit]
Darshan started his career as an HR professional at Shaze. He had applied to the Mr. Gay India contest three times, and finally achieved success in the 2017 edition. According to him, this victory helped him and those around him accept his sexuality.
“Till yesterday, my mother would not understand the concept of homosexuality, but since I’ve taken part in this contest she has started listening to LGBTI voices… I remember her telling me, ‘Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?’ And I replied, ‘Mom, I’ve been trying to tell you for six years.’” [3]
Private life[edit]
He revealed to his parents that he was gay in 2010, which led him to become temporarily homeless. During this time, he often visited psychologists and endocrinologists on the advice of his parents so he could be cured.[4]
