The Data Amulet is a piece of 3D artwork by Willard Van De Bogart, created from an AI neural network using the "Toridion Algorithm". Van De Bogart described it as a physical representation of what the system is "thinking".
Van De Bogart has described the work as a "Solid Matter Hard Drive", a storage medium in which compressed digital information is encoded into a physical 3D object such that the object can be subsequently digitised by a computer and the scan used to reconstruct the original file or data that created it.
Origins and name[edit]
The Data Amulet was developed as a method of hard storage of quantum key code data associated with Quantum Information Compression.[1] The first known use of the name Data Amulet appeared in a publication for the 12th International Conference on Intellectual Capital, Knowledge Management & Organisational Learning.[1]
Use in artistic works[edit]
In 2015, a Quantum Data Amulet was produced from the neural network of a simulated quantum computer during an experiment to determine the ability of a Neural Network to reconstruct intentionally damaged sections of computer memory first created from a work of art and later recovered by exposing the Neural Network to music composed using a technique knows as Quantum Sound Synthesis.[2] The art work known as LadyVDB or Lady Van De Bogart after the designer who created her whilst working with Nicolas Schoffer during the 1980s in Paris France was stored in a quantum neural network and subsequently retrieved using quantised musical arrangements.[2]The neural network which resulted was then mapped and printed from a point cloud of over 7 million discreet quantised values to produce a 3D image of the computers imagination. The Amulet which was printed for display at the 18th Planetary Collegium Technoetic conference - "Consciousness Reframed" at the DeTao Masters Academy in Shanghai China is currently housed in the UK. As a piece of Technoetic art the object represents what the artist refers to as "imagination" or even a form of Xenolinguistic language. [3]
