DatingPositives
DatingPositives an internationally operating online dating service for people living with a sexually transmitted infection.
DatingPositives was listed as one of Bustle’s 7 STI Resources To Use When You Need Information — And Support in 2018..[1]. HIV activist and sexual health advocate Josh Robbins is the site’s official spokesperson [2]
Background[edit]
DatingPositives was founded in 2018 by Social Discovery Ventures as a more modern-looking, user-friendly option for people living with STIs. DatingPositives is a community partner of U=U, an awareness campaign aimed at increasing the understanding that people living with HIV with an undetectable viral load have zero risk of transmitting the infection to a sexual partner[3]
Operation[edit]
The sites’s search feature allows users to filter candidates based on location, age, gender, and interests.
Features[edit]
- Profile videos allows DatingPositives users to go beyond photos.
- Status icons allow users to quickly update their current mood.
- Video chat functionality gives the option for people who match to have conversations in real time prior to meeting.
- WAXOH.com, an online blog run by DatingPositives, gives users access to relevant news on dating, sexual health, and lifestyle. WAXOH also features original content by Josh Robbins.
Users[edit]
DatingPositives is accessible all over the world, and used primarily in the United States. The site allows users to include an STI diagnosis as part of their profile. Options for STIs include HSV 1 and 2, HIV, Herpes, Hepatitis B & C, Chlamdydia, Thrush, Syphlis, Gonnorhea, and an ‘Other’ option.
While the site’s original purpose was to provide a welcoming environment for people with STIs to connect and date, it is not mandatory to include a diagnosis or to be STI positive to use the site.
