Dave Morris is a manager and producer who lives in Los Angeles
Overview[edit]
Morris started his music career at EMI Music Canada, at the age of 24, heading marketing campaigns for The Rolling Stones, The Smashing Pumpkins, Massive Attack, Jane’s Addiction, Tina Turner, The Chemical Brothers, Nickelback, and 30 Seconds to Mars and professional golfer Craig Matthew. In 2005, he joined Capitol Records, overseeing OK Go, Yellowcard, Sean Lennon, and Dave Koz internationally. He transitioned into management in 2007, servicing a diverse list of clients, Melissa Etheridge, Adam Cohen, Dave Koz, and Eric Hutchinson. In 2013 he formed the management company Cornerman Music.
Early life[edit]
After co-hosting the Rock Talk radio show at John Abbott College, Morris graduated McGill University with Honors in 1996, where he held student staff positions at The McGill Tribune and at the Scrivener Literary Arts Review. His graduating thesis was on The Tragically Hip.
Career[edit]
After graduating from McGill, Morris relocated to Toronto to start his music career at EMI Music Canada. Three years later, he would help set the record for the highest selling #1 with Boomtang’s 59 Ways to Funk. He signed pro golfer Craig Matthew and launched the Iron Maiden “Eddie” releases, Massive Attack’s 100th Window, which landed at #1 and garnered the Top 3 Soundscan chart positions for their catalogue, and the Rolling Stones Bigger Bang. Morris moved to Capitol Records in Hollywood, working American-signed acts like Sean Lennon, Yellowcard, and OkGo, worldwide.
In 2007, he transitioned into management, working with Melissa Etheridge, Dave Koz, Adam Cohen, Vicci Martinez, and discovering singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson.
In 2013, he formed his management company Cornerman Music, managing Eric Hutchinson (Warner Bros, Kobalt), Falls (Verve/Interscope), Moon (Warner Bros, Warner Chappell), Distant Cousins (Secret Road), and Scouuts. As a producer, he co-created and produced the successful podcast People in My Phone with Dan Levy (HarperCollins), and is currently developing the music book, Recovered, into a series.
Personal life[edit]
Morris is married with two children and lives in Los Angeles.
