Davey Jones (David H.B. Jones) is a British cartoonist. He is known for his work with Viz, creating a wide range of characters and writing additional comedy content. His most well known regular strips are 'Major Misunderstanding', 'Gilbert Rachet' and 'The Real Ale Twats'.

His first entry into cartoons was submitting strips to university fanzines produced by John Freeman in the early 1980s.[1]

He sold his first cartoon 'Vlad the Impaler (and his cat Samson)' to Viz in January 1987 and joined the magazine full time in 1996.[2][3]

After Viz's founder Chris Donald stepped down as editor in 1999, Jones became part of an editorial team comprising Simon Donald, Graham Dury, Simon Thorp and Alex Collier.[4] Whilst Jones was on the editorial board of Viz he did not sign his comics but started again when he went freelance in 2012.[5]

Davey says the inspiration for characters has come from his observation of people in pubs - one figure in regular strip 'The Real Ale Twats' was based on a particular man in his local.[6] His most recognisable cartoon, the surreal 'Vibrating Bum-faced Goats', only appeared once in 1992 but Davey cites it as one of his favourite creations.[3]

He has original artwork in the permanent collection of The Cartoon Museum in London after a travelling exhibition '30 Years of Viz' arrived there in 2009.[7]
