David  Adeyemo Adeola (born April 21, 1993) is a Nigerian-born American weightlifting athlete, poet, soldier, and USA Weightlifting sports performance coach.

He is a gold medalist for weightlifting in the 2010 Junior African Championship Egypt, the 2011 Commonwealth Championship South Africa, and the 2012 Lagos State Nigeria African Championship. In addition, Adeola is the author of collection of poems A measure of my Treasure: Poems of Wisdom and Knowledge.

Biography[edit]

David was born on April 21, 1993, in Nigeria. After completing his early education, Adeola became interested in weightlifting, and then started representing Oyo State. He was later signed by Bayelsa State Sports Commission as an athelete, he represent Bayelsa sates and won 3 Consecutive National Sports Festivals, and was the general team captain.

 

In 2010, he acquired a gold medal in the Junior African Championship held in Egypt, and then received a gold medal again in the Commonwealth Championship South Africa in the following year. He was promoted from grade 08 to grade 10 by the governor of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, Henry Dicksonthe, at the Sports Festival Reception Party in 2012. In the same year, Adeola won another gold medal in Lagos State Nigeria African Championship.

After moving to the United States and acquiring US citizenship, David joined the US Army, was accepted in the US Army Warrior Fitness Program, and represented the US Army in national and international competitions. He also attended American Military University and received a bachelor’s degree in public health. In 2013, he quit representing Nigeria in international weightlifting competitions and later stated his reasons in an interview conducted by ACLSports in 2018.

David was appointed as a coach to the Kenyan National Weightlifting Team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Scotland. He has coached several athletes, including Mercy Obiero, James Adede, and Stephen Opondo. David Graduated from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California, and acquired a master’s degree in 2022. In addition, he published A measure of my Treasure: Poems of Wisdom and Knowledge in 2021.

As of 2023, Adeola is serving as a soldier in the U.S Army, a sports performance coach at USA Weightlifting, and operates a health and lifestyle blog website Healthwise Fellas.
