David Brown (Scottish Jew)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

David Brown was the first Jew recorded as openly practising his religion in Scotland.[1] He made an application to reside and trade in Edinburgh in 1691. The application was opposed on the grounds that he was not Christian but the treasurer of the city, Hugh Blair, successfully supported it on the grounds that the applicant was of "the ancient people of God and the seed of Abraham".[2]
