David Casals-Roma (born 13 October 1972, in Lleida, Spain) is a Spanish writer and director.[1]
Biography
He moved to Amsterdam in 1997 and began learning the intricacies of the film business whilst working as an IT technician.[1] His first experience as a filmmaker came two years later, when he moved to Brussels where he shot his first short films.
In 2001, he moved to the United Kingdom where he studied a BA in Film and Media at Birkbeck, University of London. He also enrolled in different screenwriting and directing courses in Spain, United Kingdom, France, The Netherlands, Italy and the United States.
He also lived in France for seven years until he finally returned to Spain where he founded a film school in Lleida (Spain) with the main goal of training future filmmakers.[1]
David has directed short films, feature documentaries and corporate videos. He has won over 130 awards worldwide and works as a documentary, screenwriting and directing teacher at different schools and universities in Spain and the United States.
Besides filmmaking, he has written novels, short stories, theatre plays and poetry. His first novel titled 21 days of rage, won the Morella Award for Best Thriller Novel published in Spain by a first time author. His second novel Where Giants Die, was finalist of the Azorín Novel Award.
He speaks fluent Catalan, Spanish, English, French and Italian.
