David Chess
Dr. David Chess is, as of December 8th, 2025, the mayor of Stratford, Connecticut. He succeeded the previous mayor, Laura Hoydick.[1]
Political career
David Chess was elected mayor of Stratford, Connecticut in 2025, succeeding Laura Hoydick.[2]
He was inaugurated as mayor on December 8th, 2025. He was the first member of the Democratic Party to win an election to the city's mayorship in more than 20 years.[3] The state of Connecticut has, like much of New England, trended away from Hoydick's Republican Party in recent years. Chess campaigned in 2025 with Connecticut's 3rd congressional district's representative, Rosa DeLauro.[4] During the campaign, he described Stratford's finances as a significant priority.[5]
