David Hext (Percussionist)

David Hext is a percussionist, percussion tutor and composer in England. David Hext is the founder of HEXTMUSIC[1]. David's parents were both music teachers and his father and brother enjoyed playing trombone.

Education[edit]

David Hext studied music in Bedford when he was 10 years old. David Hext learnt drum kit from Keith Brightman and percussion from Fred Austin. David Hext participated in Bedfordshire Youth Orchestra and Brass Band before studying at Royal College of Music in London.[2] When David Hext studied at the Royal College of Music in London, David Hext studied percussion under Alan Cumberland and Michael Skinner; studied composition with Stephen Dodgson.[3]

Career[edit]

After graduated from Royal College of Music in London, David Hext accepted the position of Sub-Principal Percussionist of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In 1989, David Hext joined the Hallé Orchesatra as Principal Percussionist[4] and teach at Chethams School of Music in Manchester. David Hext also act as a examiner for many music college in England. David has written many pieces for mallet percussion and timpani. David Hext's compositions appear in the percussion syllabus of ABRSM[5], Trinity College London[6] and London College of Music[7].
