David Hocking

David Hocking, a radio evangelist and Bible expositor, was born in Long Beach, California in 1941. He frequently lectures around the United States on Christian eschatology and is associated with premillennial and Christian Zionist views.[1][2]

Education

David Hocking holds degrees from Bob Jones University, Grace Theological Seminary, and Western Graduate School of Theology, including a Doctor of Ministry degree and a Ph.D. degree in Biblical studies and languages.[1][3] He has also been awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Biola University.[4]

Pastoral Ministry

During the 1970s, Hocking was the Senior Pastor of the Grace Brethren Church,[5], which is located in Long Beach, CA. From 1982 to 1992 he was the Senior pastor of Calvary Church of Santa Ana (not to be confused with any of the Calvary Chapels). David has been preaching and teaching the Bible for over 50 years and has taught courses in Bible, Theology, Biblical Languages and Expository Preaching in colleges as well as in graduate schools.

David has served as pastor in Columbus, Ohio, Long Beach, California, and Santa Ana, California. He has written over 35 books. Hocking continues to minister through his Hope for Today Ministries located in Southern California, and visits several churches as a guest speaker throughout the year. He also provides free college level Bible courses at Blue Letter Bible Institute. [6]

Radio Ministry

Hocking's career as a radio evangelist began with the program Sounds of Grace in 1974. From 1979 to 1989, he assumed duties as host of The BIOLA Hour, a popular program produced by Biola University.[1] In 1991, he began his own radio program, Solid Rocks Radio, but stepped down the following year after a dispute with the board of directors.[7] In 1995, he began a new daily radio program, Hope for Today, which can now be heard on stations nationwide and on streaming audio.[8]

Hyatt Hotel Incident

David Hocking was staying at the East Jerusalem Hyatt hotel, on October 17, 2001, across from the hotel room where Rehavam Zeevi, Israeli Minister of Tourism, was staying, when Zeevi was assassinated by PFLP terrorists. Hocking was quoted in the BBC news as having heard a thump, and screams from Zeevi's wife. Hocking then rushed to assist Mr. Zeevi; however, he was already dead.[9]
