David Kahn is a krav maga (Hebrew קרב מגע: "contact combat") instructor and serves as the United States Chief Instructor[1] for the Israeli Krav Maga Association (IKMA). Krav maga is the official self-defense and hand-to-hand combat system of the Israel Defense Forces and taught to military, police forces, and civilians worldwide.

Kahn received his krav maga advanced black belt teaching certifications from Haim Gidon, who is one of only two Israelis awarded an 8th degree black belt by krav maga founder Imi Lichtenfeld in 1996.

Biography[edit]

While attending law school, Kahn began his krav maga training with Rick Blitstein, one of three Americans to graduate from the first international Israeli Krav Maga Association instructor course in 1981. Blitstein, along with two other Americans, introduced krav maga to the United States. In 1998, Blitstein sent Kahn to Israel to train with Israeli Krav Maga Association Grandmaster Haim Gidon for a six-week private course. Professionally, Kahn has provided training to the United States Marines,[2] Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, along with the Royal Marines. Also in the United States, Kahn has trained the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Secret Service, DEA, ATF, DOD Police, U.S. Coast Guard Police, U.S. Army Military Police, USMC Provost Marshals, Navy Shore Patrol, New Jersey State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, New Jersey Transit PD, Amtrak Police, Vermont Game Wardens, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Conservation Officers, Pennsylvania Game Commission Conservation Officers, New Jersey Parks Police, New Jersey Parole Board, Pennsylvania Board of Parole and Probation, New York City Police Department, and Philadelphia Police Department among other law enforcement agencies[3]. Kahn has developed an American Football Combatives Program which has been taught to numerous universities including Kahn’s alma mater, Princeton University,[4] where Kahn played football. The training has also been picked up by NFL teams and players including Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald,[5] and Olivier Vernon.[6]
