David "Yungin" Kim is a Korean-American mix engineer. His career began in Los Angeles in the 2010s, recording and mixing for artists such as Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khaled, Nipsey Hussle, Hit-Boy, Nas and many others.[1][2][3]
Life and Career
Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea and grew up in Koreatown, Los Angeles.[1] He attended college at California State University, Northridge, but dropped out after 2 years to pursue his interest in music.
Kim graduated from Musicians Institute in Los Angeles in 2009 with a certificate in audio engineering.[4] From there, he started his mixing career at Chalice Recording Studios in Los Angeles. Kim began as an intern from 2011 to 2015, later becoming an assistant engineer in 2016, and eventually became an engineer in 2017.[5] Through this position he was able to become American Record Producer Hit-Boy's full time engineer.[6] Kim worked on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015 [7][8][9]. In 2020, Kim won the Grammy for Best Rap Album for his work on Nas's King's Disease [10]
