David Anthony Lewis (born June 7, 1963) is an American sportscaster and actor.

Biography[edit]

Lewis was born in San Diego and grew up in Southern California.[citation needed]

After graduating from Sonora High School in La Habra, California, Lewis attended Fullerton College, where he served as the radio play-by-play announcer for the school's football, basketball and basketball teams and also worked as a disc jockey for the campus radio station KBPK. Lewis later attended California State University, East Bay and graduated Cum laude with a degree in Mass Communications in 2009.[citation needed]

Lewis began his professional career as a Top 40 Disc jockey, working for radio stations such as KGGI in Riverside, KLNV in San Diego, KBAY (formerly KWSS) in San Jose, KSOL in San Mateo and KYLD (Then operating as KSAN) in San Francisco. He concluded his music radio career in 1995 as the afternoon host at KHQT in San Jose, where he operated under the name Dr. Dave.[citation needed]

In 1995, Lewis opened a 12-year stint as the play-by-play announcer for Santa Clara Broncos men's basketball. During his time as the voice of the Broncos, Lewis was also responsible for producing all commercials and selling advertising in the broadcast. He worked with several color analysts, notably former Santa Clara and professional basketball player Bud Ogden. Lewis served as the radio voice of the team during the 1995–96 season, a season during which the team advanced to the 1996 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament and won its first-round game as a 10 seed.[citation needed]

His college basketball radio play-by-play credits include California Golden Bears women's basketball. Lewis has also served as a color analyst for Saint Mary's Gaels men's basketball.[citation needed]

From 1995 through 2020, Lewis served as the evening sports anchor for KCBS_(AM) and NBC Radio News. Since 2010, he has served as a fill-in sports anchor for KPIX-TV in San Francisco. Lewis also served as a television play-by-play announcer for high school[1] and college basketball and soccer games on Comcast Hometown Network from 2010 to 2018 and the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. Since 2018, he joins color analysts Aaron Garcia and Darren Arbet as the announcer for Sacramento State Hornets football on KOVR. He also joins Arbet as the announce team for the Bay Area Panthers of the Indoor Football League.[2]

Lewis has also served as an actor, with eight career credits. His first acting role was as a fireman in Consequences, a film by Mario Bobino in 1995. Since that time, he has also appeared in The Female Law Firm, Oakland's Squad, Defiance, Family First the Marshawn Lynch Story, Critical Affair and Charlie. In 2017, he portrayed a corrupt bar owner who embezzles retirement money from senior citizens in Jimmy Kendrick.[citation needed]

He also has various community-based experiences, serving as emcee for Dogtoberfest in Livermore, California in 2016[3] In 2018, he claimed the Mirrorball Trophy at a Tri-Valley celebrity dance competition[4] when he swing danced to "Candyman."[5]
