De General

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Joshua Sunday, professionally known as De General, is a Nigerian Igbo comedian and a content creator.[1][2] He once disguised as a mad man in order to give back to the community by donating some money to anyone who could help him.[3]

Career

The comedian earns from creating content on Facebook and YouTube. He considers Jackie Chan a role model as he is a martial artist who uses comic ways to act.[1]

Controversy

De General was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for allegedly being involved in drugs and detained in their custody for a week.[4] He was convicted at the Federal High Court by Justice Daniel Osiagor, who confirmed that only a minute amount was found, hence he was only cautioned and not sentenced.[5]

After release, De General cleared the air by accepting that although tramadol and Cannabis were found at his residence, he is not involved in drug trafficking aside from comedy.[6][7]

The drug scandal was met with a bad reaction by the public, fans and other celebrities. One of those who reacted was BasketMouth, who felt it was a waste of tax money.[8] Also, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) condemned the parade of the comedian by NDLEA while sparing Abba Kyari, who was a narcotic suspect at the time of the incident.[9] Mr. Macaroni also condemned the way De General was treated during the arrest.[10]
