Dead for a Dollar is an upcoming American Western thriller film written and directed by Walter Hill. It stars Christoph Waltz, Willem Dafoe, and Rachel Brosnahan. The plot follows bounty hunter Max Borlund (Waltz) as he is tasked with locating Rachel Price (Brosnahan) after her presumed kidnapping. However, when he discovers that Rachel willingly fled from an abusive husband, Max is faced with a dilemma while also having to confront his sworn enemy, outlaw Joe Cribbens (Dafoe).
Premise
In 1897, in New Mexico Territory, Chihuahua, bounty hunter Max Borlund is hired to find Rachel Price, the politically progressive wife of businessman Nathan Price, who is allegedly being held for ransom in Mexico by Elijah Jones, an African American army deserter. After discovering that Rachel willingly fled from an abusive husband to live with Elijah, Max is faced with a dilemma. During his search, Max is also forced to confront his sworn enemy Joe Cribben, a professional gambler and outlaw who he had sent to prison years before.

Production
At the virtual Marché du Film on June 21, 2021, it was announced that Christoph Waltz and Willem Dafoe would star in Dead for a Dollar, a Western written and directed by Walter Hill. The film marks Waltz's return to the genre after Django Unchained (2012), which won him his second Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and Hill's return to directing after The Assignment (2016).[1] In August 2021, Rachel Brosnahan,[2] Brandon Scott, Warren Burke,[3] and Benjamin Bratt joined the cast.[4] On August 24, the Albuquerque Journal reported that principal photography had begun in Santa Fe, New Mexico.[5] Approximately 80 crew members, 20 principal cast members, and 40 background and extras from New Mexico were employed for the shoot.[6] Dead for a Dollar is scheduled to be released in the United States by Quiver Distribution and internationally by Myriad Pictures.[2]
