Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation[lower-alpha 1] is a sports video game in the Dead or Alive series developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo as the fifth overall entry to the beach volleyball spin-off title Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
Gameplay[edit]
Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus retains most features from Xtreme 3, besides the characters utilizing the models and graphics which are seen in Xtreme 3, and Dead or Alive 5 and its updates. As a free-to-play gacha game, the mechanics on the sports' gameplay in this game are different than in regular Xtreme entries.[6]
Development[edit]
Following the release of Xtreme 3, Tokyo Game Show 2016, Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation was announced to be released in November 15, 2017 for DMM.[2][7] Ahead of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Scarlet update for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, a Microsoft Windows version of Venus Vacation was announced to be released in March 26, 2019 via Steam for specific Asian regions. However, the gacha events of Asian versions are different than the Japanese version, whereas the Japanese version of Steam release, which was released in August 19, 2020, continues the events of DMM version.[3][5] Johren version was later being released in June 15, 2021.[4]
A Japanese-Australian voice actress, Sarah Emi Bridcutt, guest-starred in a 6th anniversary livestream event.[8]
Release[edit]
Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation was first exclusively released markets for DMM in November 15, 2017, before receiving an international release via Steam in March 26, 2019.[2][7][3]
The Japanese version of Venus Vacation was made available on Steam on August 19, 2020. The Japanese Steam release is identical to the DMM version.[5]
The game was released on Johren on June 15, 2021.[4]
Characters[edit]
All nine chosen playable characters who were included in original release of Xtreme 3 return, in additions to exclusive characters for this. Players who started Venus Vacation for the first time must select two initial girls between one of the original Xtreme 3 roster, whereas Misaki can be chosen as the first optional secondary character to pick, while the others who were released in post-launch events of Venus Vacation can only be unlocked via gacha.[9] Currently, only the returning character Leifang and the new character Misaki were also added exclusively in the latest Xtreme 3 update Scarlet, and as DLC characters for PlayStation 4 version of Xtreme 3:
Reception[edit]
The Metacritic rates Xtreme Venus Vacation at generally favorable score in 8.3.[11] Andrew Duncan from GameGrin gave the Steam release a 4.5/10, praising the game's graphics but criticizing its long loading times, repetitive gameplay and music.[12] Both Steam versions of the game receives very positive reviews on their official Steam pages, whereas the Asian version at 82%, while Japanese version receives 70%.[13][14]
