Magical Adventure of a Little Princess (Japanese: 摩訶不思議アドベンチャー Little PRINCESS, Hepburn: Makafushigi Adobenchā Little PRINCESS) is a text-based adventure, released by ChampionSoft, the predecessor to AliceSoft, in 1989.

Plot[edit]

The player plays as Kentarou (小川健太郎, Ogawa Kentarou), who is trying to save his girlfriend, Miki (来水美樹, Kurusu Miki), from "Dracula." The "Dracula" of Little Princess was retroactively affixed to Gi (ガイ, Gai), a Demon King from the Rance series of video-games. Demon King Gi, seeing that his life as a Demon King is about to end without an heir that he considers suitable for his title, sets out to find an heir from "Dimension 3E2," which is similar to modern-day Japan and different from the "JAPAN (JAPAN, JAPAN)" region of the Rance series. When the Demon King finds Miki, he turns her into Little Princess (リトルプリンセス, Little Princess), the seventh Demon King. He is defeated by Kentarou, although, as Miki has been turned into Little Princess, Gi has accomplished his goal of creating an heir.

Later development[edit]

The game was originally a stand-alone title, as it was created without any connection to any existing ChampionSoft series. AliceSoft, which was founded off of ChampionSoft, added the game to the continuity of the Rance series. AliceSoft added the two main characters into the Rance series at various times. Miki was first given a major rôle in Rance 01 – Hikari Quest –, where she travels with Kentarou in attempting to cure herself of Little Princess. She maintains the form of Miki, rather than lapsing into the Little Princess states, through the consumption of "Hirami Lemons," an exceptionally sour variety of lemon. Kentarou has only been given minor game positions, generally supporting the aspirations of Miki. She turns him into a Dark Lord, a direct servant of the Demon King, when he was mortally wounded during the events of Warring-States Rance. The addition of Little Princess to the Rance continuity involved the affixing of Gi on to the former character of "Dracula," which kept with AliceSoft's recent retroactive story-based alterations in Rance 01 – Hikari Quest –, Rance 03 – Fall of Leazas –, and other more modern titles.

Game mechanics[edit]

Little Princess is an adventure game which requires the input of specific commands. If a command is not recognised, then the game will not be able to execute properly. The lack of hints and difficulty of the command system makes the game very difficult; one the game's creators, TADA, reviewed the game in 2013. He found the game to be one of the most difficult of the released ChampionSoft titles. TADA also discussed an updated re-release of Little Princess; however, no such release has yet occurred.[3]
