Dean Douglas Cates is an American actor, writer, and producer best known for the films POD[1], Ritual[2] and the TV Series CSI Miami and Castle[3]

Personal life[edit]

Cates grew up in rural Minnesota. His first experience acting came during his senior year at Shattuck-St. Mary's in It's a Wonderful Life. He moved to Los Angeles after graduating with a degree in marketing from University of St. Thomas.[4]

Career[edit]

Dean Cates's first on-camera break came starring opposite Ed O’Neil as the lead in the film “Steel Valley”.

In 2016, Cates based the look of his character[5] "Ed" in Pod on a combination of Donald Sutherland in Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Dustin Hoffman in Straight Time. At SXSW, Cates said he accepted the role before reading the script based on the opportunity to grow an awesome mustache. [6]
