Death of Bernadette Caroline
On the early morning of 5 November 2023, an Airlangga University animal science student, Bernadette Caroline, was found dead at the age of 21. She was found by a security wrapped in plastic in the driver seat. Her death was ruled as possible suicide.

Bernadette Caroline Angeheliumlica Harinato was born in Kediri, East Java.[1] She went to Airlangga University majoring in animal science in 2019, and resided at an apartment in Surabaya.[1] During her college years, she was known as an outstanding student and achieved almost perfect grades at graduation.[1] She then continued on to graduate school to obtain a veterinary degree and became an assistant lecturer for pathology courses.[1]
Timeline[edit]
On 1 November 2023, Caroline ordered an aquarium aerator hose for Rp. 2,750 and a mini helium gas cylinder for Rp. 681,000.[2] She received the item on 3 November and was seeing moved from an apartment room to use lift to basement on 4 November at 14:40 WIB (UTC+07:00).[2] She left the apartment using his car at 15:05 AM and entered Sidoarjo Apartment at 16:00 AM.[2] Caroline was found dead a day later by a security at her parked car at Royal Park Business Shophouse complex in Tambak Oso village with a sitting position behind the driver's seat and wrapped head in duct-taped plastic with the end of a helium tube goes into the plastic that covers her head.[2][3]
Investigation[edit]
Police found two wills written in English by Caroline and addressed to her family.[3] They found a transaction between Caroline and a seller of hoses and helium gas that clearly stated her identity.[2] Caroline's belongings were found there without any loss and her body was sent to the hospital for a further autopsy and toxicology check.[2] Police also found a suicide simulation using helium on victim's cellphone and ruled Caroline's death as probable suicide.[4]
