Dr. Debi Prasad Mishra is an Indian Scientist and Aerospace Engineering professor at IIT Kanpur and the director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, Kolkata.[1][2] His areas of research interest include combustion, computational fluid dynamics, and atomization.
Education[edit]
After finishing his Bachelor of Science (Engg.) in Mechanical Engineering from University College of Engineering, Burla, Odisha, in 1987 he went to IISc Bangalore in Mechanical Engineering in 1994[3] to complete his Ph.D degree. He jointed the Engineering Mechanics Research Corporation , Bangalore as a Senior Research Engineer and worked in the filed of Combustion and CFD. During this period his contribution was in the filed of Stretch Effect in fuel flames. After that in the year 1996 he joined the prestigious IIT Kanpur as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. During his stay at IIT Kanpur he has some extensive contribution to the society. For the first time in India, Prof. Mishra has successfully established laser ignition of liquid fuel in laboratory scale swirl combustor. Flame Synthesis of silica nanomaterials are produced for the first time in India by us which can revolutionize the future technology. Currently he is working to create a microgravity combustion facility to carryout droplet combustion which will be unique facility in India as well as the world.
Awards and honours[edit]
He was conferred with the Indian Oil Golden Jubilee Professional Chair in IIT Kanpur. He was a Visiting Professor in 2002 at the Tokyo-Denki University, Japan. He is the recipient of several awards Some of them are Young Scientist Award, Sir Rajendranath Mookerjee Memorial Award, Samanta Chadrasekhar and Vikash Prerak Sanman, National Design Award in Mechanical Engineering, Excellence in Aerospace Education and etc.
Research[edit]
He had served as an Assistant Editor, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Elsevier, USA. Besides this, he also serves as an editorial board member of Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, Taylor & Francis, and International Journal of Turbo and Jet engines. Dr. Mishra has six Indian patents and around 229 research papers in refereed Journals and in conference proceedings to his credit. He has authored five textbooks titled “Fundamentals of Combustion”, “Engineering Thermodynamics” and “Gas Turbine Propulsion”, “Experimental Combustion” and “Fundamentals of Rocket Propulsion”.
Social Contribution[edit]
He is working to revitalize and popularize the ancient Indian science and technology heritage among youth. He has published two books, “Glimpses of Ancient Indian Science and Technology” and “Forays into Ancient Indian Science and Technology”. He has developed a unique MOOC course, “An Introduction to Ancient Indian Technology” which has been appreciated highly across the globe. Bachpan Bachao Abhiyan is one the major social contribution he is doing towards giving back to the society.
