Background[edit]

Deborah Ali-Williams has always had a passion for helping people, and as a child her dream was to become a police officer. Her father Isiah helped spark her interest in the funeral industry. In 1993, she enrolled in The Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service and graduated in 1995. In 2000, she opened All People's Funeral Home in Houston, Texas and later created an additional location in Rosharon, Texas[1].

TikTok Fame[edit]

According to an interview with Ali-Williams published by Houston Chronicle, posting to TikTok was her son's idea. Her first video, posted on May 22, 2021, was a simple advertisement for the funeral home. Her first video to get over a million views was posted on September 8, 2021, and featured Ali-Williams as the center of the video. This was the format she continued to use going forward, and her videos often show the behind-the-scenes of the funeral industry and the services her business offers. Ali-Williams told the Houston Chronicle, "It's crazy. They love my shoes, the way I dress, the way I speak. I’m still in the mode of what I’ve always done. It’s just being seen." Viewers on TikTok often comment on Ali-Williams's fashion and attention to detail.[2]

In September 2022, Deborah Ali-Williams signed with The Wynn Network to be the star of a reality TV show called "The Peoples' Place," which is based on her funeral home business. A trailer for the show was released on YouTube on September 13, 2022. The show filmed its first season and was renewed for a second season around the same time.[3]
