From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Debra J. Fisher (born July 28th, 1969) is an American television writer and producer. She's previously served as a writer/producer on Take Two, Being Mary Jane, Witches of East End, Twisted, Law & Order: LA, The Forgotten, Criminal Minds, The O.C., Charmed, and her first writing credit, the J.J. Abrams hit, starring Jennifer Garner, Alias.

In 2019 Debra was tapped as the showrunner on Netflix's new series, Ginny & Georgia, the fifth most-popular show on Netflix in 2021.[1] Netflix revealed that the first season was watched by 52 million subscribers in its first 28 days. It was renewed for a second season in April 2021 and will pick up right where season one ended with 10 new hour-long episodes. [2]

Career[edit]

After moving to Los Angeles, Debra worked on USC and UCLA student films before landing a job at Ruby-Spears Productions as a script coordinator. There, she worked with the writers on Mega Man and Skysurfer Strike Force.[3]

Shortly after, in October 1996, Debra worked as an assistant to two Executive Producers, Christopher Keyser and Amy Lippman, on Party of Five.[4] Debra then scored a staff writer position on the Jennifer Garner action-based series Alias in 2001.[4]

After Alias, Debra went on to work on a number of shows from The O.C. to Charmed, to Criminal Minds, to Witches of East End and is currently the showrunner for Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia[5] which has surpassed Tiger King as one of the top watched shows on Netflix.[6]

Debra has stated that she wanted the show “to be a fun, feel-good ride...that depicted a nuanced and complicated mother-daughter relationship, and layered female friendships in a way that isn't always seen in shows.”[7] As a first time showrunner, Debra has said that it was important for her to have “a strong team of women” creating this show “about women, by women, for everyone.”

Awards[edit]

In 2002, Debra, and the rest of the Alias writing team, was nominated for an OFTA Television Award for Best Writing in a Drama Series.[8]

Personal life[edit]

Debra grew up on the east coast. She studied radio, television, and Film at the University of Maryland before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in writing.
