Deciso (deciso, Italian meaning "determined, resolute or firm", and a musical term) is a privately owned European computer technology company based in Goeree-Overflakkee, Netherlands that develops, sells and supports network appliances and middleware software for small, medium and enterprise business customers. Devoted to Open source technology and the FreeBSD community, the company sponsors and develops the FreeBSD 10.1-based OPNsense open source firewall distribution.[5] Deciso is also a long time sponsor and development contributor and enabler for other open source projects, namely the Open Source Initiative,[6] pfSense, m0n0wall, Askozia, Asterisk PBX and Zen Load Balancer.[7][8]

History[edit]

Deciso was founded in 2000 as "Deciso B.V." in Middelharnis, South Holland. Deciso describes itself as "a highly innovative company that develops network appliances and middleware software [in the field of] open source firewall & utm technology to telecommunications and business intelligence .. with a strong focus on open source technology" and as an "enabler by creating turn-key appliances that bring these solutions to a broader public and into the professional domain."[9]

Since April 21, 2008 Deciso is part of Deciso Group B.V.[10][11] Since April 3, 2014 "OPNsecure",[12] since April 8, 2014 "OPNsense",[13] and since April 9, 2014 "DECISO" are trademarks of Deciso Group B.V.

The Deciso custom built 2013-15[14] OPNsense network applinaces are based on the embedded G-Series[15] SOC by AMD with an open source SageBIOS, a version of Coreboot.[16]

Deciso's first open source community-project OPNsense started on 2 January 2015[17][18][19] as a fork of pfSense, which started as a project fork from m0n0wall in 2004.[20][21][22]
