Avishkar Sonna, popularly known as Deejay Avesh (born 25 August 1988) is a South African DJ and Music Producer.

Early Life[edit]

Born in the Township of Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, north of Durban, in South Africa, Avishkar is the youngest of two children and the son of the late Pritham (Roy) Sonna, and Anusha Sonna, a retired Warrant Officer of the South African Navy, and a retired School Teacher. Sonna is a Hindu of Indian descent and is a self taught keyboard player.

In 2002, at 14 years old, with the help of a Computer Program called PCDJ, Deejay Avesh made his first Remix.[1] This was a huge accomplishment at the time, as he had now mastered the art of beat-matching two songs together which is a critical skill needed as a DJ.

Career: 2006 - The Beginning[edit]

In 2006, 18 year old Deejay Avesh, played his debut set at Krakatoa Nightclub in Sibaya Casino, Durban and by the end of this year, he secured a Radio Interview on Youth Crossfire with CJ Benjamin on National Radio Station Lotus FM. This interview ended with Deejay Avesh showcasing his talent on the decks, which impressed listeners as well as other Radio Jocks, and by the end of the show, Deejay Avesh had become the In-House DJ for the show Youth Crossfire, with a weekly set every Friday for the next 2 years.[2]

During this time, Deejay Avesh continued to make a name for himself by playing at Nightclubs, Lounges, Outdoor and Corporate Events.

2008: Relocating To Johannesburg[edit]

In 2008, Deejay Avesh decided to relocate from Durban to Johannesburg, seeking better job opportunities and freelanced for many nightclubs such as Madison Avenue Rivonia, Tiger Tiger Fourways, SET Rosebank, Avastar Rivonia, Vacca Matta Montecasino to name a few.[3]

2013: International Record Deal[edit]

A track by Deejay Avesh, called "Take You Away", featuring South African vocalist RAH on vocals, was picked up by one of the Pioneers of House Music, Keith Thompson of New York, signed and released under his label Jamlure/Thompsonic Records.[4]

2020: Second Place Worldwide[edit]

In 2020, Deejay Avesh entered a Remix Competition hosted by Terry Gajraj. His remix made the Top 5, coming in at Number 1, and ultimately winning second place in the World Finals. [1]

This remix was released through South African Record Label "Bhavani Entertainment & Investments" and opened the door for future opportunities working with the Legendary Terry Gajraj.

2021: International Success and Collaborations[edit]
