DeepLearning.AI is an American education technology company, offering courses in deep learning technologies. It was founded in 2017 by Andrew Ng following his tenure as Chief Scientist at Baidu and co-founder of Google Brain.[1][2] The company was announced on June 22, 2017, shortly after Ng's departure from Baidu in March of that year.[3] According to Ng at the time, Deeplearning.AI aimed to address the disparity between the increasing demand for deep learning expertise and its limited availability in research laboratories and universities.[4] Development of the curriculum began in May 2017, with the participation of two Stanford University teaching assistants.[5]
On August 8, 2017, three DeepLearning.AI courses were added to Coursera. They expanded upon Ng's earlier machine learning course that had attracted over 1.8 million students since 2011.[5] One of the courses, "Deep Learning Specialization Certificate", required basic Python programming knowledge and fundamental machine learning concepts as prerequisites. The curriculum emphasized foundational concepts taught in low-level programming languages rather than specific corporate frameworks.[4]
By 2024, DeepLearning.AI had developed partnerships with major technology companies including Amazon AWS,[6] NVIDIA,[7] Google Cloud,[citation needed] and Intel.[citation needed][non-primary source needed]
As of 2024, Deeplearning.AI has reached over 7 million students globally, offering more than 50 free short courses alongside its paid specializations and longer programs.[8][3]
