Deepak Rao is an Indian military trainer and author. He has helped train the Indian Territorial Army and the Indian Army, for which he has received an award and the honorary rank of Major[1]. The honorary rank[2] is conferred along with MS Dhoni for his contributions to Indian Cricket & Abhinav Bindra for winning an Olympic Gold medal. Deepak was awarded for his work for the Indian Military over the years.[3]

Rao was a trainer for the Indian army since 1994, and during that time, with his wife, he initiated a new form of reflex shooting for use in close-quarters combat, for which they received an award from President Kovind.[4][5] His technique combines various traditional methods of hand-to-hand combat through training and simulator systems,[6] and has been used in the training schools of a number of Indian state and federal military and security departments. He has been appointed an honorary Major.[7][8]

Rao has authored a number of books on terrorism and special ops, including Terrorism: A Comprehensive Analysis of World Terrorism, by APH Publishing. Many of his books have been distributed for free to the army.[9]
Martial artist[edit]
In an interview, Richard Bustillo mentioned Deepak Rao as one of only 3 instructors in India who teaches Jeet Kune Do correctly. [10]
Rao is a self-proclaimed martial arts grandmaster.[11]
