Deidre DeJear is an American marketing executive and politician from the state of Iowa.

DeJear is a native of Jackson, Mississippi. Her grandmother, Mattie Washington, served as a county election commissioner in Yazoo County, Mississippi.[1] Her mother died three days after her younger sister was born. When she was 12, her father remarried and moved the family to Tulsa, Oklahoma.[2]

DeJear moved to Iowa as a college student when she enrolled at Drake University. DeJear founded Caleo Enterprises, a marketing firm, in 2008.[3][4] In 2012, she worked for Barack Obama’s reelection campaign, turning out the African American vote in Iowa.[2]

In the 2018 elections, DeJear is running for Iowa Secretary of State. She defeated Jim Mowrer in the Democratic Party primary election to become the party’s nominee.[5]
