Denodo Technologies is a software company with headquarter located in Palo Alto, CA (USA) and offices in Coruña (Spain), Madrid (Spain), London (UK), New York City (USA), Chicago (USA), Boise (USA), Munich (Germany) and Chennai (India). Denodo provides software for data virtualization, an innovative agile data integration technology. Denodo’s data virtualization software platform is called Denodo Platform. Denodo also provides support, training, and services besides its core technology platform.

History[edit]

The initial research at Universidad de A Coruña focused on extracting data from web sites which are, typically, designed for human browsing and navigation and not automated data extraction. However, Angel Viña, founder and CEO of Denodo, realized that the innovations developed for web site data extraction could also be applied to the many different data sources being used within large organizations i.e. traditional databases and data warehouses, web services, files, and, more recently, the emerging big data stores. All large organizations have a plethora of these different data sources and, often, they become data silos which can only be integrated by copying the data to a more centralized location.

The focus of Denodo's development activities grew to encompass Fast Data Strategy comprising support for big data sources, cloud deployment model, self-service data discovery, data lineage, and unparalled performance through dynamic query optimization.

The key driver behind the technology and engineering work continues to be led by Angel Viña and Alberto Pan, CTO at Denodo, although others have since joined Denodo to help with development and innovation activities. This work is supported by Denodo's performance engineering lab staffed by six PhD's.

Data virtualization is growing in acceptance as the most favorable form of data integration for fast data strategy purposes.
