Spin.AI (legally Spin Technology, Inc.) is an American cybersecurity company that develops software for securing data in software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. Its platform, SpinOne, provides backup and recovery and includes tools for SaaS security posture management and protection against data loss and leakage.[1][2]
History
Spin Technology was founded in 2017 by Dmitry Dontov in Palo Alto, California.[1] In 2022, the company raised US$16 million in Series A funding led by Blueprint Equity.[1] In April 2024, CRN reported that Spin.AI launched its first formal partner program for resellers and MSPs.[3] During Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Wired noted that the company maintained engineering operations in Ukraine while relocating some staff to Portugal.[4]
Products and research
Industry media reported that Chrome Browser Cloud Management surfaces browser-extension risk scores from CRXcavator and Spin.AI Risk Assessment to administrators, with Google’s enterprise documentation describing the feature.[5][6][7]
Independent security outlets have covered Spin.AI’s research on browser-extension risk in enterprise environments; for example, Dark Reading discussed the firm’s analysis of approximately 300,000 extensions and the prevalence of risky permissions, and Security Magazine summarized similar findings.[8][9]
Patents
The company and its predecessor entities have been assigned U.S. patents related to ransomware detection and remediation in cloud backups, including:
- US 11,120,133 B2, Ransomware detection using backup, assigned to Spinback LLC/Spinbackup Inc.[10]
- US 11,526,611 B2, continuation of the above.[11]
