The Derry Hotel Firebombing happened on 29 May 2014. A man walked into the Everglades Hotel in Prehen, Derry, Northern Ireland. PSNI Chief Superintendent Stephen Cargin said: "A masked man went into the hotel and left a hold-all at the reception desk saying he was from the Real IRA. The device was reported, and the hotel was evacuated within 10 minutes. The masked man got into a red Volkswagen car and drove off, later to be found burnt out in the Glendara area of the city. When army bomb experts were making the hotel safe, the device exploded in the reception. The blast caused a fire inside the building which was quickly put out. No one was killed or injured in the attack, but the reception and entrance of the hotel were extensively damaged. No one has fully claimed responsibility for the attack, but dissident republicans and the suspected Real IRA are being blamed for the attack. The Police Service of Northern Ireland have launched an investigation into the attack.
