Life and career[edit]
She grew up in Karşıyaka, İzmir. After studying at Gazi Anatolian High School, she completed her education at Dokuz Eylül University Theater Department. She took part in amateur theater groups inside and outside the school during her university years. She moved to Istanbul after graduating from university. After moving to Istanbul, her first role was in the TV series Zerda in 2002 with the role of "Sıla".[1] After that, she played the role of "devil's wife Müjde" in some episodes of Aliye and in Seher Vakti, which was published in 2005. In a review in Radikal, it was written that she "shine" in her role in this series.[2] She played the character of Servet in the TV series ' Aşk ve Mavi'
In 2013, she played the lead character inspired by Medea in Oyun Atölyesi's play "Araf". In 2014, she took part in the play "Oteki" by Tiyatro Seyirlik and "Zübük" by Tiyatrokare.[3][4] Gülnaz Bıçakçı, who wrote in the journal Tavır, reflects Artemel's performance in the play "Araf", "Derya Artemel, who plays the woman, reflects Medea's or Woman's psychology very well. Apparently, she did a rigorous psychological examination. Sometimes she successfully portrays her insane emotions, tension and feeling sorry for her children on stage." she assessed.[5] in 2019, she played in Mam'ART Theater's play "Empatopia". Her acting in this play was assessed at Tiyatro Dergisi (Theater Magazine), by Pınar Erol, "It doesn't take long for us to empathize with the understanding, wise role people who never leave my smile in the game. We immediately fall under their influence. That smile infects us too. In November, Derya Artemel's facial expressions, which look as if they have been mounted on her face and have taken over her facial muscles, have a great effect on this.".[6]
In 2019, she directed the play "Under the Table" at Bizim Tiyatro (Our Theatre) and played the character of Florence. Ismail Cem Özkan, writing in Açık Gazete (Open Newspaper), evaluated Artemel's performance as "having absorbed the game, fulfilling the requirements of her role and contributing to the play of her friends during the playing time".[7]
