A design win is a term used mainly in the semiconductor industry to refer to the choice of a particular integrated circuit (IC) for use in a new product. To be worth producing in quantity, an IC design needs at least one design win. The term may also be used more broadly to refer to the selection of a particular component in any complex system.

During the 20th century, when ICs were typically designed and produced by the same company, the profitability of the product could be determined by the total sales, so the number of design wins was not always important. With the rise of fabless design firms, where the product may be produced by any number of companies or dedicated fabs, design wins have become a common metric for the commercial viability of a design.
