Despacito 2 is an internet meme based on the song, Despacito by Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi.
Summary
The reason this meme has skyrocketed in popularity is because it is based on the most viewed video on YouTube with nearly six billion views (as of September, 2018). It has also earned popularity by being featured in comment sections of social media platforms such as Instagram. Specifically, on June 27, 2018, this meme was a huge search on Google.[1] Many parodies have also been made of this meme, such as what Despacito 2 would be like if it were created. This meme has also been featured on Know Your Meme.[2] There have been many versions of this meme, such as "Alexa, this is so sad, play Despacito 2" and "Alexa play Despacito by: (list of singers/rappers)". The video commonly referred to as the "official" version is titled "Despacito 2" by popular meme YouTuber FlyingKitty. The video has amassed over 30 million views on YouTube.[3]
