Deviant Horror (often referred to as just Deviant) is an American hip hop duo from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Formed in the summer of 2016, Deviant Horror is a husband/wife Juggalo Rap/Horrorcore duo composed of Shane and Tai Coats, who perform under the respective personas of Ratchet and Sukkew (Suck-You).[1][2] They released their debut album "Blood, Sweat, & Tears" in 2018.[3]

Deviant Horror performs a style of Juggalo/horrorcore rap and have released 1 studio album, 4 singles, and 1 mixtape.[4]

Tours/Performances

Deviant Horror's first live performance booking was October 12, 2016, in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Southport Music Hall, where they performed a 15-minute set as the final local support act, opening for the "Spooktacular Horror Show" alongside Godz Of Kaos, Menace 2 Sobriety, Lex "The Hex" Master, Zodiac Imprint (Blaze Ya Dead Homie & The R.O.C. (rapper)), Mac Lethal, and Twiztid.[5]

Their second performance was also booked in New Orleans, Louisiana. This time at the House Of Blues, on February 15, 2019, kicking off Juggalo Weekend for the official Fearless Fred Fury, album release party, presented by Psychopathic Records and Informed Juggalos, and hosted by The Juggalo Yacht Club and Reno Rydas. Deviant Horror performed a 30-minute set, sharing the stage that night with Enasnimi, Lunchbox, Fear Itself, Acetone Boogie & IZZO, Grave-Bait, Godz Of Kaos, P Thang Crazy P, SpAzZ DaNkY BuDdZ, Toon Khaos, 420 Suppah Time, Will. E. Haze, Juggalesque, The Psychopathic Monstar, Lyte! A free copy of Insane Clown Posse's fourth Joker Card in the second Deck of the Dark Carnival Saga, Fearless Fred Fury, was given out to everyone in attendance.[6][7]

The third booking that Deviant Horror ever received was for August 2, 2019, in Springville, Indiana at the Lawrence County Recreation Park by Psychopathic Records, to perform at the 20th Annual, Gathering of the Juggalos. The duo performed a 30-minute set on the Cannibal's House stage. This stage was shared in 2019 with Xtra Overdoze, Skitzo, Bulletproof & The Fool, and many more including Jumpsteady.[8] This would mark Deviant Horror's first official GOTJ booking.[9]

The fourth performance that the duo has been booked for was on February 28, 2020, at Backroads, in Holly, Michigan, at the Underground Showcase, presented by Monstar Ent and hosted by Lyte. Deviant Horror performed a 20-minute set that night, sharing a lineup with Bake Lo, Zitro, Kyo, Morlock, Medikal Recordz, TAK, Xtra Overdoze, and Big Hoodoo.[10]

"Television/Film Appearances"

Deviant Horror’s single “Chopping Up Bodies” was featured briefly in one of the most successful indie horror films of 2019,[11] “Clown Motel: Spirits Arise”, starring Ari Lehman (1980 Friday The 13th's Jason Voorhees) and Tony Moran (1978 Halloween's Michael Myers), as well as their song “Clown Motel”, which was an original composition written as the theme song for the hit film.[12] They are also scripted to be involved in the upcoming sequel “Clown Motel: 2 Death Do Us Part”.[13] The official KickStarter for the new film states "Actor/Actress and Musician Deviant Horror will be joining us as deranged clowns for the first time. Deviant songs "Chopping up Bodies" and "Clown Motel" were in "Clown Motel-Spirit's Arise". You do not want to cross paths with these two!", which will mark as both's first scripted role in a feature film.[14]

Style and influences

Deviant Horror's performance style is often described as Juggalo rap.[15] Ratchet stated "...we also like to incorporate our relationship and our deep love for one another because that's what being a Juggalo is about, it's about love and acceptance. And you see, a lot of Juggalos deal with depression and loneliness and stuff, so this can give them hope at finding their own partner."[16] and later went on to say "We're also for the Juggalos who have their Juggalettes, and the Juggalettes who have their Juggalos, but they haven't had a banger like that to represent their marriage and their love and shit -- because there's - as far as we've looked, there's no other married couples in horrorcore."[17]
