Devin Kim Hansen (born 1987) is an independent filmmaker who produces, writes, directs, and edits his own films.
Biography[edit]
Devin K. Hansen was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1987. He was adopted at the age of 3 months and grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is a Korean-American independent Utah film director, screenwriter, and actor.
Early Life[edit]
Adopted at the age of 3 months, Devin became the third and youngest child of his family that lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. Growing up with his parents with a brother and an older sister, Devin had a very memorable childhood. Learning everything he could at a young age, everything was new and different for him since he was adopted. Devin was even picked on in elementary school, and even tried to run away from home at a young age.
Directing[edit]
Devin's 2nd feature film "Stalker" made in 2018, won 2 awards, and 7 nominations at the Utah Film Festival[1] in early 2019. His passion for film did start at a young age, but Devin had doubts later that he would never become a successful filmmaker. Since 2017, he has successfully written and directed a few short films, and is on his way to writing and directing more feature films.
Chad Daybell[edit]
In the early year of 2019, shortly after the Utah Film Festival, Devin kept in communication with a friend who was a model. His friend had posted on Facebook a picture of herself on a cover of a book called "Chasing Paradise" which was one of Chad Daybell's recent books. His friend knew that Devin was filmmaker, and suggested to him that this new book that she was on the cover on should be made into a feature film. Devin then contacted Daybell. (See Killings of Tylee Ryan and J. J. Vallow) In early 2019, Devin had asked Chad if anyone had approached him yet into making his book into a feature film. On May 17th, 2019, Devin and his friend Valentina met with Chad Daybell for the first time face to face. They had a good time getting to know Chad or so they thought at the time. The meeting was to discuss production plans for the film. Chad had signed each of their books, to seal their partnership. Devin was asked by Chad to begin writing the screenplay for the film. He kept in touch with Chad on a weekly basis through phone calls, emails, and text messages. Devin kept in contact with Chad constantly to ask him questions about changes in the film from the adaption of his book. Some of Devin's ideas were suggestions to changes and as well as who would be cast for the film. Chad had even written a permission letter to Devin to make it more official. From what Devin has said to local news networks in Utah and was currently featured on Dateline NBC[2]. From what Devin has told news networks, "He seemed distant and grew quiet sometime in late August. I thought it was strange that he suddenly went silent." Then as one of Devin's close friends had messaged him that month, Devin saw that Chad Daybell had fled Idaho, and was with a new woman named Lori Vallow. From what Devin had first told FOX News[3] "I decided to not go on with this project as soon as we found out he was on the run from law enforcement." Devin said, "We're going to move on and do something else that doesn't involve Chad or his books". Later that year, Devin and his friend Valentina later found out and were completely shocked about the news on the deaths of Tylee and J. J. Vallow. Devin had recently told NBC Dateline: "The last time I ever heard from Chad was on September 23rd of 2019." The exact same day that both children were reported missing by their grandparents.
